Whaleshark on Kuredu!

04 Sep 2013

Prodivers see Whalesharks quite often, Vakarufalhi, located in the South Ari Atoll are always bragging about their sightings, however today Kuredu PD were able to claim one for themselves!

The last time Kuredu spotted a Whaleshark close by was back in 2011… so it is fair to say they are quite rare sightings in the Lhaviyani Atoll.

The lucky guide was Armin, who was taking a couple of guests between KFFC and Peak on scooters for the PADI DPV specialty course. During the dive they came across schooling Silvertip Sharks, Grey Reef Sharks, Eagle Rays and Tuna (which in itself is pretty good going) but the dive was capped off when a 4m+ Whaleshark cruised out past Wall towards the Peak pinnacle, giving the scooter divers plenty of time to get nice and close and enjoy the moment.

We’ve always maintained that the diving in the Maldives is amongst the best in the world, and it’s the chance for random encounters like this which make it so special!
