Planning a visit to the Maldives? Don’t miss out on the opportunity to see what lies below the surface of the ocean – an incredible underwater wonderland awaits. Once you’ve plucked up the courage to try scuba diving, it will be easy to understand why the Maldives is one of the world’s most renowned diving hotspots and the good news is there’s no prior experience or study required!

With so much to do during your holiday in the Maldives, it is understandable that not everyone wants to enroll in the full PADI Open Water Diver Course. For all those who want to experience the thrill of breathing underwater and get a glimpse of what lies beneath the surface around the resort, the best option is the PADI Discover Scuba Diving program (DSD). The Discover Scuba Diving program is a quick and easy introduction to what it takes to explore the underwater world.

During the DSD your instructor will explain the basics of scuba equipment, you will learn the key skills to make you feel comfortable and safe and, most importantly, have loads of fun. The first dive takes place in the very shallow water of the lagoon so that you can get used to the gear and the amazing sensation of being almost weightless. This is coupled with learning a few handy skills. The second dive is where the real experience begins! Your instructor will take you for a dive to the reef, where you will see what the Maldives is so famous for: corals, an abundance of fish life, and if you’re lucky, turtles, moray eels and maybe even rays! With so many beautiful dive sites accessible by boat, most of the DSD participants decide to do a third dive as well. Given the ideal conditions, such as warm water, small groups (max. 4 students per instructor) and so much to see on reefs, most guests get hooked on diving and use the Discover Scuba Diving program as credit towards the full Open Water or PADI Scuba Diver certification.

Kudadoo residents can organise Discover Scuba Diving activities with their private butler.
