Shark Diving at Innahura Maldives

13 May 2019

Scuba diving with sharks is a bucket list item for many divers and the Maldives is a great destination for ticking that item off the list. A thrilling adventure awaits guests at Innahura where sharks can be seen patrolling the channel edges of dive sites nearby. Sharks love the conditions in the channels, known locally as kandus, where the ocean currents flow in and out of the atoll. They make easy work of the sometimes strong currents and divers can too with the use of Innahura’s underwater scooters. Guests can join an instructor for a Scooter Intro or take the specialty course and, once familiar with flying effortlessly along the reef, a cruise across the channel while gazing at a shiver of sharks will be a rewarding and exhilarating experience never to be forgotten.

Shark action can be found at Fushivaru Kandu which is a 60-minute boat ride from Innahura and a favourite hang out for lots of sharks and rays. Meyyafushi Kandu and Fadhoo Kandu/Plateau, both reached within 30 minutes of the island, also offer good chances of spotting sharks, Innahura’s out reef is a good place for seeing nurse sharks- they can often be found resting under the big coral blocks.

The team is ready, the sharks are waiting…come and do a bucket list dive with Innahura!
