Shark Adventures – Not to Be Missed!

09 Jul 2021

Spending time in the ocean with sharks is an exhilarating experience and if you’re spending a holiday in the Maldives there are plenty of shark adventures to be had. Both scuba divers and snorkellers can join the action and have thrilling tales to tell their friends at home, as well as social media posts that will be full of engagement – make sure you tag us so we can be part of your story! @ProdiversMaldives #ProdiversMaldives

Diving: Sharks can be seen on lots of different dive sites at all of the Prodivers Dive Centers – contact us and tell us where you will be staying and we can give you more information about sites specific to your trip. Pop into the dive center on arrival and let us know you want to see sharks – we will do everything we can to make this happen!

Scooter diving is a great way to experience some our most challenging sites to areas where groups of sharks like to hang out in the current. If you’ve never tried it before, no problem, the Diver Propulsion Vehicle (DPV) – Scooter Specialty Course includes two dives and covers knowledge and techniques for diving with an underwater scooter including entry and exit techniques, safe diving practices and how to avoid damaging the reef. You need to be certified to PADI OWD or equivalent and aged 12 and above to participate.

Learn more: Divers wanting to learn more about sharks can enroll onto the Shark and Ray Diver PADI Specialty Course where you will learn about many different species, with an emphasis on those that are endemic to the Maldives. One dive is included in the course for shark spotting and identification. You need to be certified to PADI OWD or equivalent and aged 12 and above to participate.

Snorkel Trips: Snorkellers (divers are also encouraged to join without their dive gear!) can spend the most thrilling adventure of their holiday searching for sharks at night. Predators of the reef make use of the torchlight beam when hunting for food and, with luck, sharks are spotted on this night snorkelling excursion too!

In search of giants: Those in South Ari Atoll can join whale shark search missions in the hope of encountering the biggest fish in the sea! Although mainly seen in the south, divers and snorkellers in Lhaviyani Atoll have had lucky sightings too.

Here’s a glimpse of the kind of adventure awaiting with Prodivers:
