Most Popular Snorkel Excursions:
Snorkel with Turtles
Lhaviyani Atoll is home to an astounding number of turtles, both green and hawksbill, so snorkelling here offers an amazing opportunity to observe them in their natural environment. Snorkel at Kuredu Caves where the reef is made up of a series of overhangs – the largest green sea turtle community of the Maldives hang out here! Seagrass areas of lagoons offer a good chance of spotting green turtles too – it’s their main food source so are often found grazing in the meadows. Komandoo’s house reef is a good place to find hawksbill turtles and Turtle Rock, accessible from Innahura yields many turtle sightings. These fascinating creatures can be seen on almost every snorkel excursion so keep your eyes peeled!
Check the resort apps for excursions where turtles are likely to make an appearance: Komandoo, Kuredu, Hurawalhi and Innahura; Kudadoo residents simply need to ask their butler and turtle adventures will be arranged.
Full Day Snorkel Boat Trip
Nothing beats spending a full day out on the ocean and exploring the beauty of coral reefs. Admire the pristine, palm-fringed islands and sandbanks on the way to the prettiest snorkelling spots in the atoll. They’re home to colourful fish, a huge variety of corals and other marine species. A full-day snorkel adventure also provides a great opportunity to see the Maldives spinner dolphins, which sometimes play around the boat.
Both Kuredu and Innahura have regular full-day snorkel excursions. If you will be staying at one of the other resorts, pop into the dive centre and ask.
Night Snorkeling: Discovery in the Dark!
Snorkelling after the sun has set allows the discovery of a whole new world. See how the reef, and its inhabitants change as darkness descends. Beautiful feather stars open up, feeding in the currents, vivid green parrot fish can be seen sleeping among the coral blocks, and the jacks and snappers of the reef dart around hunting for food. Night also brings some of the reefs larger inhabitants into shallower water, with large nurse sharks, stingrays and humphead parrotfish are all regularly seen on our night adventures.
Book the following adventures with the resort apps: Kuredu, Innahura, Hurawalhi and Komandoo; or book directly at the dive centres or with your butler during your stay.
The coral reefs of the Maldives are one of the most spectacular underwater environments on the planet and our team of experienced snorkel guides is here to help you discover the very best of what this ocean rich nation has to offer. You just need some basic equipment, which can be rented at the dive center, and a spirit of adventure!
