Dolphins while diving at Lily Beach
19 Jan 2017Again a exciting full-day excursion at Lily Beach! We headed out to the south of the atoll to search for the famous whale shark. After snorkelling with two whale sharks outside of Maamigili, we got ready for our first dive at Maamigili Beru. Right after our descent we could hear something squeaking and after one minute we could see what it came from: a pod of happy dolphins! They just came out from the blue water and even played with us for a while before they disappeared again into the blue. Dolphins are very rare to spot during a dive and usually quite shy, but this pod was coming very close to the divers and presented themselves from their best side.
Maamigili is located at the southern tip of the Ari Atoll, where we go to look for whale sharks. Inside the channel we have a succession of nice overhangs and it’s often like a fish soup: groupers, snappers, sharks, thousands of fusiliers and sometimes mobula mantas are seen flying in the current. The top reef is also full of surprises like scorpionfish and stonefish, moray eels, anemones, nudibranchs and turtles feeding on the corals.
We look forward to welcoming you in our diving heaven here at Lily Beach, and can’t wait to show you everything else that the ocean around the resort has in store for you!
