Manta Trust Partnership at Hurawalhi Maldives

14 Jul 2016

Many of you already know that Prodivers is opening its fifth dive center this winter. Besides Kuredu and Komandoo, Prodivers will plant its blue-orange flag at the 5-star Hurawalhi Maldives here in the north of the Lhaviyani Atoll. We’re excited to be able to give you an update on the recent developments of our Hurawalhi operation: the resort and Prodivers have teamed up with the Manta Trust to become Key Regional Partner of this UK-registered charity.

From a research perspective, this is important as it will allow Manta Trust an even easier field work and encourage further understanding of the Lhaviyani Atoll’s big manta ray population. Manta Trust experts will make guests’ sightings of mantas even more meaningful and memorable by providing guests with heaps of interesting information about these gentle giants, recent survey findings and of course offer the most accurate answers one could possibly get about manta rays.

The new project will aim to provide thrilling experiences to snorkellers and divers alike, and likewise importantly put a big emphasis on bringing conservation topics to the forefront of each activity. From guests participating in the identification of individual manta rays to presentations, movies and general talks delivering a wealth of knowledge on environmental issues, we look forward to the actual kick-off of this new, very important partnership at Hurawalhi Maldives.

Lhaviyani is a beautiful atoll with some of the best dive sites and marine life encounters in the Maldives, including of course manta rays. I am therefore delighted that the Manta Trust, Hurawalhi Maldives Resort and Prodivers have come together to aid the conservation of Lhaviyani’s megafauna, working together to research, educate and raise awareness of the wonders within the underwater world. – Guy Stevens, CEO & Founder, Manta Trust
