Playing the field
19 Jun 2012
It is probably a fair assumption to make that for the staff of Prodivers diving is our world; however that does not mean this is all we do.
This week saw the creation, and first training sessions of the Kuredu Women’s Football team, only the second women’s football team in the Maldives (the first being the Maldives national team.) And Prodivers is proud to be part of this, supplying 4 of the 23 girls who came to the first training (Alex, Karola, Elodie and Sibylle), and both the coaches (Jon and Ben…lucky boys!)
The team aims to not only provide a fun and competitive way to stay fit, but also to strengthen relationships between the departments and the staff who work here at Kuredu Island Resort and Spa, and with 7 departments and 10 nationalities represented on the team we suspect they will go along way to achieving these goals.
Although only just beginning the team has already managed to secure sponsors and have arranged their first competitive match – against the Maldives women’s national team for September. Which means the players and the coaching staff have a lot of work to do over the next 3 months, especially when for many of the girls this is the first time they have taken to the field!
With two training sessions a week and an additional 5 optional fitness sessions in the mornings it could be a busy summer of sport for the girls of Kuredu. However we are sure they are up for the challenge, and hope they have a great time along the way and we wish them all the luck.
