Supporting Clean Up The World 2014!

22 Sep 2014

On the third weekend of September, the annual Clean Up The World event takes place, and Prodivers was proud to join the initiative once again.

In order to help increase the awareness of the problems that marine debris causes in our oceans, Prodivers helped to organise a number of events to involve our divers and snorkelers that were visiting both Kuredu and Komandoo.

On Kuredu, a special full day snorkel trip was organised, with the emphasis of the trip being on cleaning up the deserted island of Veyvah.  With an extra dhoni on hand to bring the rubbish back to Kuredu, the 20 strong team of guests and team members returned with approx 1,000kgs of trash.

The divers of Kuredu and Komandoo helped the cause with a cleaning up of the relevant house reefs.   With close to 40 divers in the water the divers were able to recover over 300kgs of unwanted material from the reef and jetty areas.

In addition to the cleaning up of the reefs, both Kuredu and Komandoo organised clean ups of deserted islands close by.  With approximately 200 people involved in these activities, another 750kgs of garbage was collected.

In the evening, as a reward for all of the hard work undertaken, all of the guests and team members were invited for cocktails and snacks on the beach.

We would like to thank all of those that participated on both Kuredu and Komandoo in helping to Clean Up The World!
