Great start to 2018 follows amazing year on Lily Beach

07 Jan 2018

2018 started nicely for guests on the first dive of the year at Lily Beach. Atheef went out to Ranvelhi Thila and 3 Guitar sharks gave the group a surprising welcome to the year.

Looking back at the past year, the team on lily Beach shared many great experiences, both under and over the water, with their guests in 2017…

As is usually the case in South Ari Atoll, the numerous whale shark and Manta encounters were among the highlights. The sightings are possible all year round due to the good location of the Island – what a lucky team they are to be based at Lily Beach! Another special encounter this year was a school of tiger sharks, following a free buffet due to a dead whale being driven through the atoll. The guests thus had this rare opportunity to see these beautiful animals in such close proximity. The house reef on Lily Beach has again shown its very best. Encounters with turtles, whitetip reef sharks, numerous eagle rays and schooling jackfish were commonplace. Ghost pipefish even took up residence for a while too. The lagoon became a kindergarten of baby blacktip reef sharks and various baby rays. Even the mantas paid the shallows a visit!

Furthermore, many familiar faces came back to the island to dive with the Lily Beach team. Many fun and memorable dives were shared which showed that a repeat visit is always worth it. A big thank you to all of the guests – each and every one made it a very special year. The fond memories will be treasured for many years to come.

Happy New Year from the entire team, here’s to more amazing adventures around South Ari Atoll in 2018!
