From Open Water Course to 10-time repeater – meet Gavin!
24 Nov 2018Many who visit Kuredu Maldives fall in love with the easy-going, barefoot lifestyle and back in 2006, that’s exactly what happened to Gavin, along with his wife Lori.
Shortly after arrival on Kuredu for the first time they ventured into the dive center and, curious about the underwater world of the Indian Ocean, signed up for the PADI Open Water Diver Course with Lisa. They fell in love not only with the island but with the ocean and diving too. This first holiday set the scene for many future trips and a newfound passion for scuba diving.
Fast-forward 12 years and we have just celebrated Gavin’s 10th visit to Kuredu and, since it was his 10th trip diving with Prodivers, he enjoyed the diving for free with the generous repeater discount program. (Lori was enjoying her 11th visit as she had managed to sneak in an extra trip!)
Gavin has come a long way since those first breaths underwater; he has qualified as an instructor and has logged more than 1000 dives. He has dived in many locations around the world but, he says, nowhere was the quality of the dive center as high as at Kuredu. What else keeps him coming back? The island feels like a second family to Gavin and Lori as there are always familiar faces, with staff staying for years before moving on – Staffan and Ray have been around since long before the first visit and Armin and Ludwig have welcomed them back for many years too. As well as the Prodivers operation itself, Gavin loves the variety of dive sites to be found in the Lhaviyani Atoll – from easy-going macro spots up to thrilling channel crossings…he also confesses to enjoying the tea and cakes after the dives!
It’s been a pleasure to be part of Gavin’s diving story (Lori’s too of course!) right from the very beginning, and long may it continue!
