Instructor Diaries Kuredu Maldives

Last month we, hopefully, entertained you a bit with our reports on Mike and his escapades. This month we have chosen to take a more feminine approach to the instructor of the month, and we would like to introduce you to the delightful, cheerful and hearty – Alex.

She’s been a PADI dive instructor for quite a few years now, learning her trade in the murky British waters. She joined Prodivers in June, along with a slightly less delightful boyfriend Simon (Mike says: It’s funny because it’s true!). Since then she has become a key member of the team. (more…)

Instructor Diaries – Mike, the heroic group leader

Instructor Diaries Kuredu Maldives

A change of pace as been seen with Mike this last week, as he has moved on from teaching beginner divers and found himself at the head of a boat full of experience.

Last week Mike took on the very different challenges of leading a Finish dive group. When a dive club or group comes to Prodivers they will usually be allocated one instructor to lead them through our wonderful waters and show them what we have to offer. The Aqua World group, consisting of 11 experienced divers had the pleasure of Mike at their helm, who, conditions and will allowing, guided them on 3 dives a day every day for the next week, in both our own Lhaviyani Atoll and the adjacent Noon Atoll. Whilst leading a group is a great way to get to know your guests and spend a lot of time with them (and perhaps more importantly for them to get to know us) there can also be a lot of pressure on the instructors to deliver the dives we know we can experience in these magnificent waters. Instructor Diaries – Mike, the Family Guy

Diving Instructors Kuredu Maldives

Before those of you who know Mike have a small heart attack and fear he has gone and decided to start a family, don’t worry, he hasn’t… as far as we know. We are merely referring to his irritating habit of copying Peter Griffins (of Family Guy fame) laugh. This is annoying for two reasons: first it is an annoying laugh. Second, it’s incredibly catchy and if you enter the dive centre, or perhaps, even more worryingly, join us  on a dive you are more likely to hear the Nehehehe… than any other sound (or at least see a stream of uncontrolled bubbles rise from our instructors regulators).

This may seem an unusual way of starting the second entry for our instructor journals; however Mike is nothing if not unusual, so it seems fitting. When we last left Mike he had embarked on a new course after a stint at the counter in the dive centre. We are pleased to report that his course was successful, not only did his students  survive his tuitions, but they passed and we are able to welcome  new certified divers. Congratulations, Therese, Marie and Ulf! (more…)

Instructor Diaries

Diving Kuredu Maldives

Have you ever wondered what it is like to be an instructor at Prodivers? We decided to start keeping a diary and give you an insight into our instructors’ daily jobs (mostly diving-related, with some cheeky stories if appropriate!). True tales of people who spend their days exploring what lies beneath the water surface, testimonials of their amazing sightings, the joy they feel after their students eventually grasp ‘which of those thingies goes into their mouth’ and the stress they undergo when assigned dive centre duty.

The first in a series of diaries, Mister January so to speak, is a man with a heart of gold, perfectly disguised as a tough Swedish do-not-mess-around-with type of a guy. He loves football (yet doesn’t play due to his alleged allergy to grass). A bird lover who is known to have one or two caged in his room and a pioneer in outlandish beach wear, at the cutting edge of diving fashion. He has even been known to sample the occasional ale after a long days work, as he relaxes in a quiet and calm fashion enjoying the good views and better company offered by the Prodivers team. Everybody loves Nico

Diving Instructor Kuredu Maldives

Prodivers have lost a legend. After three and a half years the time has come to say goodbye to Nico, a devoted instructor, a good friend, a mood lifter with a distinctive sense of humour (“…But Jesus was French!”) and a renowned star in PD Production movies. To make the long story short, he’s one of those people that everybody likes and we reckon that those of you who have had the chance to meet him would agree. “Of courzzz I’m awesome!” He is indeed and he will truly be missed. New Staff Prodivers Kuredu

Here they are, the long-awaited arrivals of Valentina, Stefan, Raphael and Jon! November has seen the arrival of four new staff members who have already been given a warm welcome by the whole Prodivers team.

Valentina and Stefan, an Italian couple, have joined us from Thudufushi in South Ari Atoll, and will be working in the office and as an instructor respectively. Raph has worked as an instructor in Egypt and Malta before and is looking forward to experiencing the underwater world of the Maldives. Jon’s been based on the island since April, so he hasn’t found it difficult to find his way around the day-to-day running of the dive center. (more…)

Komandoo Diving

Marcel and Reni Kaspar are the latest dive instructors to join the Komandoo team.

They are replacing Steve and Silvia who decided to leave last July after being two years with Prodivers on the little Komandoo. Marcel and Reni arrived from Switzerland the first week of October and immediately “submerged” in to the daily routines and, of course, the Indian Ocean. (more…)

Simon and Alex Kuredu Prodivers

At the beginning of  June, Alex from the UK and Simon from Belgium arrived on Kuredu to join our instructor team.

Both are bringing experience with them; Alex used to work in the cold murky waters of the UK, while Simon gained some experience as a Divemaster in Egypt. Alex is especially enjoying the warm temperature of the Indian Ocean after having done so many dives in cold water! (more…)

Goodbye Silvia and Steve

Silvia, Steve Komandoo Prodivers

Silvia and Steve left Komandoo Prodivers for good at the end of July. After working 2 years in Komandoo they decided to move on to a “normal life” in Germany. We never like to say good bye, but soon or later we have to. We wish them all the best on their next adventure.

Tuuli, Markko Kuredu Maldives

Tuuli and Markko recently left Kuredu after being part of the Instructor Team for the last year.

As their contract came to the end they decided to move on for exploring other parts of the world.

Before continuing their adventure both Tuuli and Markko will first enjoy holiday back home in Estonia during summer.

Thank you very much (more…)
