Winner 'Rate the dive site'

Votes that you casted during the BOOT 2012 show helped us pick a winner! It’s been tight, but among Top 5 that we suggested (Caves, Anemone Thila, Express, Orimas Thila, Shipyard), the flattering title ‘Best rated dive site’ goes to – Kuredu Express!

Our Facebook friends casted a total of 155 votes, amongst which Express got the highest ratings! We totally agree with your choice and we’re looking forward to taking you there again and again! It’s one of those places where adventure awaits. Sharks, big schools of jack fish and snappers, napoleon wrasses, moray eels, turtles and rays can be admired as you drift along the reef. To make a long story short: mindblowing! (more…)

Grey reef shark Ray van Eeden

Everyone wants to experience the thrill of diving with sharks. Over 15 species of sharks have been sighted in our atoll, 6 of which are regularly seen by divers.

The abundance of these incredible creatures makes chances quite high and few divers leave disappointed.

Be it shark action on our trips to the Noon Atoll, a ride on Kuredu Express or (more…)

Shark Project iPhone / iPad App

Wednesday, January 25th, 2012

Shark Project MaldivesSharks are a hot topic this year at the Boot Show in Düsseldorf, with many great causes being promoted to help protect shark populations around the world.

The Shark Project is a non profit organisation based out of Switzerland, that are fighting hard to ensure the future of the fish of the top of most divers wish list.

Each year, Shark Project presents a ‘Shark Guardian’ and ‘Shark Enemy’ award.  The Guardian Award is for individuals or organisations that stand out in the fight for shark protection.

This year, we are pleased to report that the award went to the Maldives President Mohamed Nasheed, for the sterling work in extending the regulations to forbid the fishing of sharks across the whole of the country as well as putting a stop to the export of any shark products.

In addition, Shark Project also took this opportunity to launch a new iPhone / iPad app, dedicated purely to sharks!

The app contains information about over 70 different sharks, together with where they can found around the world, (more…)

Hammerhead shark Kuredu Maldives

You should have seen the grin on Alex’s face a few days ago.  We reckon she will win this year’s PD competition for the most epic sighting – a hammerhead shark. These big fellas are not very common around here, but the group of divers that she guided on Vaavaru Outreef were some of the lucky ones to have spotted this rare creature. Even though it passed by in a blink of an eye everybody froze at the sound of Alex’s rattle and admired the shark. (more…)

Scooter Diving Kuredu

It was one of those days when you wake up and know it is going to be a good one.

Diving in channels provides some extraordinary diving, as the rich soup is funnelled through the ‘kandus‘ between reefs and as such attracts the whole food chain to a feeding frenzy. It’s not all fun and games for the fish, but the feeling of effortlessly gliding through the water holding on to a scooter and observing all the action that is taking place is something that everyone should try out. harks Rays Maldives

In support of the European Shark Week and global shark conservation efforts,  along with the great success of the previous two years’ events,  we are thrilled to announce that we will again run the Shark and Ray Week Special in October.

Aimed at raising awareness of the importance of sustaining shark populations,  increasing education about these vulnerable creatures and giving our divers the opportunity to dive at some of the most amazing sites,  we are hoping for yet another great month of shark and ray action. (more…)

Leopard shark while doing safety stop

leopard shark

Talk about spoiling two of our guests that were doing dive number 3 of their Discover Scuba Diving package!

Not only happy with the great coral life and huge amount of fish life that makes Tinga Giri a great relaxed dive site for beginners and experienced divers alike, our lucky Resort Divers were greeted by a very curious leopard shark while doing the safety stop at the end of the dive.

Even our instructor Bettina couldn’t believe (more…)

Shark Action on Orimas

Shark Orimas Maldives

Our arrival at the famous Orimas Thila in the Noon Atoll was greeted by schooling batfish, curiously breaking the surface and swimming sideways around the boat to get a closer look.

Full of anticipation we jumped into the water, and as soon as everybody settled down, the sea rewarded our early morning departure: a bunch of grey reef sharks, from half a meter up to two meters came out of the blue to check us out – closer and closer – circling around right in front of us, “standing up” and opening their mouths (more…)

Komandoo Whaleshark

A New Years Eve morning trip to Kuda Kandu on the east side of Lhaviyani atoll brought an even bigger end of year surprise than any of a fortunate handful of Komandoo guests could have ever expected…

Almost true to form, the divers were treated to numerous grey reef sharks, several large Napoleon wrasse, plus a formation of white-spotted eagle rays flying slowly by. What appeared next however truly was “out of the blue”… (more…)
