Sailfish

Two days ago Yaafis went out to Kuredu Express with 3 divers and once again the dive site produced the goods as they had a great dive.

Although the currents were quite small, the action thrown out by Express was nevertheless pretty impressive.

Welcomed by grey reef sharks right at the beginning of the dive, the divers also had the resident school of jack fish and the some huge (more…)

Frog Fish Found on The Shipyard

Maldives Shipwreck Diving

It has taken us around 8 weeks to confirm that there is a Frog Fish on The Shipyard, but we are finally able to say we have done it!

Following on from the discovery by Mueen and his dive group in the middle of April, we have been busily trying to find the well hidden critter again, but alas to no avail.

You would expect that something approximately 30cm in size would be quite easy for us to find! (more…)

Kuredu Maldives Nudibranch

It’s not all about sharks and rays you know!

Many scuba divers in the Maldives focus on the ‘big stuff’ when they jump in the water, but the small and the tiny should not be overlooked.

The Kuredu House Reef for example, proves this point, with over 19 species of colorful nudibraches recently being found.

A nudibranch is basically an underwater slug.  But rather than looking like the drab, slimy (more…)

Sail Fish On Broken Rock

Sail Fish Broken Rock Ari Atoll

Broken Rock never fails to disappoint.  Well known throughout the diving world, the dive site close to Vakarufalhi picked up its name from the canyon that splits the dive site into 2 parts.

But it wasn’t the canyon on Broken Rock that grabbed the divers attention this week as Antonio and his guests from Vakarufalhi came literally face to face with a Sail Fish.

Sail Fish are very often seen from the boats as they jump (more…)

Nudi detail

The last couple of weeks we have been doing a number of full day trips out to the Noonu Atoll.

One of the full day trips, headed by Marc, went to Christmas Rock, followed by Orimas Thila and, as chilled 3rd dive, Easa Faru.

The divers were amazed at Christmas Rock with its stunning colors. With sleeping stingrays together with a small white tip reef shark, beautiful nudibranchs, colorful soft corals and (more…)

Maldives Komandoo scuba diving dolphins

Maldives Komandoo scuba diving dolphins

A few days ago, Rosa & Steve went with 11 Komandoo divers to Noonu Atoll. The weather was great and the visibility fantastic. The first dive took place in perfect conditions at Orimas Thila.  Just a few minutes after they jumped into the water, four grey reef sharks came to welcome the divers, along with two eagle rays and some more sharks. Three shovel nose guitar sharks had also gathered together on the sandy bottom at 25mts. The best however came at the end of the dive during the safety stop. Eight dolphins appeared from the blue and swam towards Alex, Steve and Rosa. Awesome!!!  The second dive in Christmas Rock was also great. They saw 5 juvenile grey reef sharks, one white tip reef shark and two sting rays. What a great day! We have to thank Alex Kudielka for the picture of the dolphins and Neptune for all these marine presents.

Rare visitor to Komandoo lagoon

Patterned Eagle Ray Komandoo Maldives Scuba Diving

During our usual morning walk around the island, we often see stingrays, baby black tip sharks and some trevallies going after the bait fish.

Herrings and crows also join the morning breakfast action trying to get some of the small stranded victims.

Today we came across to a very unusual visitor. Nothing less than a (more…)

Dolphins on Kuda Rah Thila

Dolphins Kuda Rah Thila Maldives

It is not unusual to see big schools of fish at Kuda Rah Thila, which is a protected Marine Park, a mere 15 minutes way from Vakarufalhi.

While watching a school of more than 100 jack fish hunting and causing havoc amongst the fusiliers yesterday, we were already blown away by the National Geographic action taking place right in front of us.

100 jacks darting through the water, fusiliers panicking (more…)

A Whale of A Full Day!

Pilot Whales Maldives Kuredu

A rare, but fantastic sighting of 3 pilot whales on a full day dive trip this week topped off a great day’s diving.

A couple of days ago, Yaafis and 7 guests from Kuredu headed out for a relaxing full day of diving.  After checking out Fushivaru Thila for the first dive of the day, the group then headed over to the south west corner of the atoll to the island of Dhidhoo.  Dhidhoo is a deserted island surrounded (more…)

Kuredu Maldives Dolphins

Dolphin are regularly seen by our divers and snorkelers as they are out and about across the Lhaviyani Atoll, but rarely do we have the chance to swim with them. Danifaru is a spot that boasts countless sightings throughout the year, so it was no surprise when two of our full day trips came across 3 bottle nose dolphins in the shallow water.

Dolphins across the Maldives, whether they be bottle nose or (more…)
