At the beginning of the week, Yaafis was heading out on a 2 Tank Boat to Fushivaru Corner together with 5 guests and Karin and Karola, from our Office and Snorkel Team.
The conditions were perfect – no strong current and good visibility, even though there was a bit plankton in the water. After they enjoyed all the schooling fish together with several honeycomb moray eels and a napoleon, they reached the corner where (more…)
With the latest set of Manta Ray sightings having been analysed, we would like to introduce you to 3 more individuals that have appeared around the Lhaviyani Atoll in the past few months.
These individuals all have a story to tell. Meet one of the most frequent visitors to the Atoll, as well as one of the Mantas that traveled a long way to get here.

April proved to be a bumper month for Manta sightings in the Lhaviyani Atoll, with Dhanifaru notching up it’s 100th identified visitor!
101 separate Manta Rays have now been photographed and subsequently identified from just this one snorkel site.
As the action on Dhanifaru slows down due to the change in the Monsoon, the sightings of the past few months has thrown up some interesting new findings: (more…)
The Kuredu House Reef threw up some additional surprises for both our divers and snorkelers this week.
Shortly after our morning snorkel boat headed out to the first site of the day, they called in to tell us about 10 Manta Rays cruising around the first coral block on the house reef, close to the lagoon.

With the latest set of results having been received from the Maldivian Manta Ray Research Project, we would like to introduce you to a few more of the Mantas we have recently seen here in the Lhaviyani Atoll.
In total, we have now identified 144 Manta Rays around Kuredu and Komandoo. At the end of January we had identified 114.
February and March saw our guests have over 80 Manta Ray encounters! In addition to the 30 new Mantas identified, we also had re-sightings of over 50 individuals.
With the Manta Ray Specialty Course proving to be extremely popular since we launched it back in January, we have been lucky enough to have had some great snorkel and dive trips with these majestic creatures over the winter months.

Its incredible to think that something so damn big can be so damn graceful, elegant and mesmerising.
Proud of the incredible Manta action that we have been having the past few weeks here in the Lhaviyani Atoll, our colleagues and guests on Vakarufalhi were feeling a bit left out about all the attention our majestic Mantas were grabbing. As March came to an end this week, the tide and moon aligned to produce a plankton bloom in the Lhaviyani Atoll. As the plankton, krill and jellyfish numbers rose across the atoll, so too did the incredible action that we witnessed.
Mantas, somehow seeming to know that their favorite delicacy was in abundant numbers in the water, came out in force and delivered some amazing performances. Both our dive and snorkel boats were blown away (more…)
Swooping and swirling through the water, 12 incredible Manta Rays put on an unforgettable show yesterday for one of our full day snorkel boats.
Our snorkel team on Kuredu run two full day trips a week to the south of the Lhaviyani Atoll. The full day trips not only let us visit snorkel sites that are out of reach of the regular half day excursions, but also offer the opportunity for guests to snorkel (more…)

Ever wondered what causes a 2 tonne giant ray to propel itself clean out of the water to an incredible 2 meters into the air? Why do Mantas have the name ‘Devil Ray’ when they are one of the ocean’s most majestic and graceful creatures? Did you know that Mantas are being slaughtered across the world’s oceans by large scale fisheries?
