Kuredu Maldives

For the past week, we have been offering daily updates concerning what has been happening on Kuredu while Staffan, Ray and Sabine are at the Boot Show 2010 in Duesseldorf, Germany.  Our sympathy goes out to them – suffering from the cold weather, including bucket-fulls of snow, while we are sweating here in sunshine all day long…

We do however miss them – our team is not complete without them. But… that doesn’t mean that we haven’t enjoyed ourselves here on Kuredu while they have been away. But too much of a good thing always has it’s drawbacks and negative effects.  Burning the candle at both ends while the bosses are away seems like a good idea at the time, but inevitably all turns for the worse as soon as their departure date from Germany draws closer.  Our team here on Kuredu has transformed itself over the past week – but if this is for the better or worse, we will let you be the judge!

Check out the “Recent Events” section in our photo gallery to view all the changes!
We hope you have enjoyed this week long special from all of us on Kuredu, Komandoo and Vakarufalhi.  If you want to see the rest of the articles relating to the Boot Show 2010, simply click here. Keep checking over the upcoming months for all the latest happenings, sightings and movie updates.

Thanks for your continued support & hopefully we will see you again soon!

Orchid Farewell from Komandoo

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

Many people like Orchids. In fact it is the largest family of the flowering plants, with about 20.000 different species; tulips and vanilla among them. Due to the constant temperature in the Maldives of about 30 C, Orchids can survive all year round here with no need of a green house. We wanted to say goodbye to all the “audience” during this year’s edition of the Boot show with a “Sunrise on Komandoo with Orchid”. Hopefully you can come over to Komandoo soon to enjoy a dawn like this or a sunset like we saw the other day, or the beautiful underwater creatures or just to be lazy and feel the white, soft sand between your toes as you walk barefoot along the beach. Have a nice year and see you soon!!

Mantas normally live at depths up to 500 meters and only during plankton blooms or for cleaning do they come close to the surface.

Where is my breakfast?

Saturday, January 30th, 2010

Everybody on Komandoo has the chance to have a peaceful breakfast sitting on the terrace beside the sea. Even this beautiful Maakana wants to enjoy this. Looks like he’s asking: Where is my breakfast? These birds are quite common in the Maldives and they feed mainly on small bait fish that swims in the lagoon. Maybe this one is fed up with the same menu and wants to enjoy some eggs and bacon and a cup of coffee…

It took some time but he found his way to Duesseldorf again!!!

Markus Grim was working from 1996-1998 for Prodivers in Kuredu, always searching for the ultimate dive. His philosophy: “You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave.” We hope to see Markus next year again at the Boot Show but working for the police keeps him busy.

Vakarufalhi Maldives

Vakarufalhi Maldives

Friday Night is Maldivian Night on Vakarufalhi, where everybody on the island has to wear a sarong.  Sarongs are the local dress in the Maldives, usually worn by men.  During the afternoon, staff on the island teach the guests the different ways how to tie the sarong, and in the evening everyone hopes that it doesn’t slip off.

Dinner itself also has a local touch, and below are just some of the local dishes on offer: (more…)
