More than guests

Repeater Divers Kuredu Maldives

We’re very flattered every time a familiar face enters the front door. Who wouldn’t be please to have up to 800 repeater guests per year returning to dive? The elaborate repeater discount programme than Prodivers launched along with the establishment in 1988 is one of its kind in the world and, given that almost 25 per cent of our divers are repeaters, seems to be working well.

We’re happy to give our divers a 10 per cent discount on their dives for their second visit, 15 per cent for their third, 20 per cent for their fourth and 25 per cent for all subsequent visits until their 10th visit when they dive free of charge. Apart from the generous discount that we reckon is encouraging enough for them to return, along with several PD freebies, what it comes down to is the flexibility that we’re more than willing to show, especially with regard to dive sites requests and instructor preferences. Guy Stevens’ Manta Ray Update

Maldivian Manta Ray Project Prodivers Kuredu

This week we were lucky enough to receive a visit from Guy Stevens. Guy has been working out here in the Maldives as a marine biologist for the last 7 years conducting manta research and is head of the Maldivian Manta Ray Project, of which Prodivers is a part. His work focuses on researching the life cycle and habitat usage of the Maldivian manta population, while also working with the government, resorts, local communities and guests to create greater awareness and understanding of these graceful rays. Newbies

New Staff Prodivers Kuredu

Here they are, the long-awaited arrivals of Valentina, Stefan, Raphael and Jon! November has seen the arrival of four new staff members who have already been given a warm welcome by the whole Prodivers team.

Valentina and Stefan, an Italian couple, have joined us from Thudufushi in South Ari Atoll, and will be working in the office and as an instructor respectively. Raph has worked as an instructor in Egypt and Malta before and is looking forward to experiencing the underwater world of the Maldives. Jon’s been based on the island since April, so he hasn’t found it difficult to find his way around the day-to-day running of the dive center. Read the rest of this entry »

It’s not all fun and games

Octopus Kuredu Maldives

Despite its wide array of techniques used to avoid or thwart attackers, even an octopus can find itself beyond the line of defense. Willi took a photo of a rare sighting – an octopus’ failed attempt to escape a moray eel’s grasp.

Besides its unusual appearance by far the most striking characteristic of the octopus is their ability to hide in plain sight. Using a network of pigment cells and specialized muscles, it can almost instantaneously match the colours, patterns and even textures of its surroundings. Read the rest of this entry »

Manta Season Kickoff

Manta Kuredu Maldives

It’s THE time of the year again! We’ve been very fortunate to have numerous manta ray sightings over the past few weeks, so it seems like the manta madness around Kuredu is kicking off.

The joy of diving or snorkelling with mantas is ineffable and we’re extremely happy every time we can share our excitement with guests by taking them to sites where manta rays frequently go to feed or have their bodies spotlessly cleaned. Read the rest of this entry »

The more the merrier

Dive Groups Kuredu

The two avid groups that were here in October and Billy’s group who still have a couple of dives ahead of them, have proven that diving on Kuredu is addictive. Cosy Cuddly Divers (CCD), The Woolfies and Billy’s divers did a total of 500 dives over 10 days!

Quite a few divers from CCD & The Woolfies have been diving with us before and since nothing beats diving with friends, they just needed to talk their buddies into coming along this year. The CCD group were guided and entertained by our instructor Muin who knows the dives sites around Kuredu like the back of his hand so he knew exactly where to take them for relaxing fun dives. Ben, chargé d’affaires for The Woolfies, had a blast himself being able to dive Lhaviyani and Noon’s best sites with a group always ready for action-packed dives. Read the rest of this entry »

New faces on Komandoo

Komandoo Diving

Marcel and Reni Kaspar are the latest dive instructors to join the Komandoo team.

They are replacing Steve and Silvia who decided to leave last July after being two years with Prodivers on the little Komandoo. Marcel and Reni arrived from Switzerland the first week of October and immediately “submerged” in to the daily routines and, of course, the Indian Ocean. Read the rest of this entry »

Once in a Lifetime. Well, twice.

Dolphins Kuredu Maldives

Let’s not waste words this time. If you were to compile a list of top ten fantasy dives, you’d include diving with dolphins in the wild, wouldn’t you?

Our divers, guided by Sebastjan, were incredibly lucky to be greeted by four dolphins at Christmas Rock and then again at Easa Faru in the Noon Atoll. Hannah took this lovely photo and let’s use it as a teaser for those of you who have been here and all of you who have just to decide to come! Read the rest of this entry »

Snorkelling Specials

The snorkel section has had a makeover over the past few months and we have added a couple of specials!

Dive par excellence

Scooter Diving Kuredu

It was one of those days when you wake up and know it is going to be a good one.

Diving in channels provides some extraordinary diving, as the rich soup is funnelled through the ‘kandus‘ between reefs and as such attracts the whole food chain to a feeding frenzy. It’s not all fun and games for the fish, but the feeling of effortlessly gliding through the water holding on to a scooter and observing all the action that is taking place is something that everyone should try out.
