Komandoo Prodivers - Dive Sites

We are diving more than 40 dive sites located within 10 - 60 minutes boat trip from the island. We dive caves, walls, deep or shallow, drift dives in channels or calm dives on the house reef. There are boat excursions up to 3 times daily as well as guided night dives. Full day excursions, two tank dives and special boats trips are arranged on a regular basis.

Here is a map of the northern part of the Lhaviyani Atoll. All dive sites are marked with a number and on the list below you will find the name, type of dive site, distance from Komandoo, dive depth, recommended camera lens and a brief explanation of the dive site

1. Hani Kandu

Depth: 5 – 30m. Lens: W
Shallow channel with overhangs and soft corals. Stingrays on sandy bottom.
2. Vavaru Outreef
Drop off / Overhangs. 90 min.
Depth: 5 – 30m. Lens: W
Steep drop off on the outreef with large caves and overhangs.
3. Vavaru Kandu
Channelcrossing. 90 min.
Depth: 5 - 30 m. Lens: W
Channel edge with small steps and overhangs. Lots of tuberstraea corals.
4. Miaruvani Thila
Atoll reef. 70 min.
Depth: 14 - 30 m. Lens: CU or M
Deep and very small underwater island. Good for macro photographers, with stonefish, mantis shrimps and overhangs full of glassfish.

Big game fish can be seen here. Sandy channel sometimes rays.
6. Madivaru Outreef
Drop off / Caves 70 min
Depth: 5 - 30 m. Lens: W
Steep drop off with large caves. Tuna fish and eagle rays can be seen passing by.
7. Madivaru Kandu

Big game fish, eagle rays and large schools of Jack fish.
8. Madivaru Thila
Atoll reef. 70 min
Depth: 8 - 30 m. Lens: W or CU
Small reef lying in the channel. An abundance of table corals. Schools of blue stripe snapper, glassfish in overhangs.
9. Felivaru Outreef
Drop off / Caves. 60 min.
Depth: 5 - 30 m. Lens: W
Steep drop off on the outreef with large caves and overhangs.
10. Felivaru Kandu
Channelreef. 60 min.
Depth: 5 - 30 m. Lens: W
Sandy channel with possibility of big game fish and eagle rays.
11. The Shipyard
Channelreef / Wreck. 60 min.
Depth: 0 - 30 m. Lens: M, CU or W
Skipjack 1 and 2, both wrecks offering an abundance of fish life and soft corals.
12. Gavirifaru Outreef / Corner
Drop off. 55 min.
Depth: 5 - 25 m. Lens: W
Steep drop off on the outreef with caves at 25m. Closer to the channel a sand terrace at 25m.
13. Gavirifaru Kandu
Channelcrossing, Thila. 55 min.
Depth: 5 - 25 m. Lens: W
2 Thila's in the channel. They are inhabited by a variety of small fish and different kinds of soft corals.
14. Hinnavaru Outreef
Drop off 45 min.
Depth: 5 - 25 m. Lens: CU or W
Steep outreef with caves and over-hangs.The caves have an amazing abundance of soft corals in and around the caves.
15. Medufaru Outreef / Corner
Drop Off 35 min.
Depth: 5 - 30 m. Lens: CU or W
Steep drop off to a terrace on 25m. Many red tooth trigger fish, napoleons and possibility of turtles and game fish.
16. Kudadu Kandu
Channelcrossing. 30 min.
Depth: 5 - 25 m. Lens: W
Sandy channel offering wide range of game fish.
17. Kahlifushifaru Corner
Channelreef oceanside. 25 min.
Depth: 5 - 25 m. Lens: CU or W
A corner with soft corals and large coral blocks. Many cleaner stations on the top reef.
18. Nakolhu Giri
Atoll reef. 20 min.
Depth: 3 - 25 m. Lens: CU, M or W
A small giri with interesting coral formations. Possibility of turtles, ribbon eels and schools of yellow banded snappers.
19. Fun Giri
Atoll reef. 20 min.
Depth: 5 - 30 m. Lens: CU, M or W
Situated in the channel it is subject to currents. The giri has terrace formations with lots of varieties of fish species. Many juveniles are also seen here.
20. The Wall
Inner reef / Drop off. 20 min.
Depth: 3 - 30 m. Lens: M or CU
Vertical reef with various kinds of soft corals in different colours. Small caves offering homes to moray eels. Shallow top reef with table corals.
21. The Peak
Channelreef. 20 min.
Depth: 5 - 25 m. Lens: M or W
A tongue shaped reef pointing into the channel. Various profile changes during dive, terraces, wall and drop off. Larger pelagic fish could be seen.
22. Peak Crossing
Channelcrossing. 30 min.
Depth: 5 - 30 m. Lens: W
Sandy channel with coral blocks in the middle of the channel. Turtles, morays and Pelagic fish.
23. Aquarium
Inner reef. 20 min.
Depth: 3 - 20 m. Lens: CU
Good photographers dive site. Table corals and schools of fish on 3m.
24. Latheef Reef
Drop off / Caves. 35 min.
Depth: 5 - 25 m. Lens: M, CU or W
Caverns on different depths. Yellow soft corals are found in the overhangs.
25. Coral Garden
Coralgarden. 15 min.
Depth: 3 - 20 m. Lens: CU or W
26. Tinga Giri
Atoll reef. 10 min.
Depth: 3 - 20 m. Lens: CU or M
Different kinds of soft corals, and anemones can be seen. At times jack fish, napoleon and long nose emperor fish are seen hunting together. Good for Photographers.
27. Bodu Giri
Atoll reef. 10 min.
Depth: 3 - 20 m. Lens: CU or M
This giri has a large population of fish life, ranging from snappers, napoleons to a possibility of larger pelagic fish. The reef houses a variety of smaller fish species, ideal for photography.
28. Kuda Giri
Atoll Reef. 10 min.
Depth: 3 - 20 m. Lens: CU or M
Giri lies so that it is subjected to currents. Small but covered in fish. On the top reef good possibility of scorpion fish.
29. Reethi Giri
Atoll reef. 10 min.
Depth: 5 - 20 m. Lens: CU or M
Gently sloping reef with coral blocks inhabited by large schools of fish.
30. Kuredu Caves
Outreef / Caves. 20 min.
Depth: 3 - 25 m. Lens: CU or W
Outreef with an indentation in the reef. Protected from currents and boasts caves at different depths. Very good for photographers and offers an abundance of marine life.
31. Kuredu Express
Channelreef. 15 min.
Depth: 5 - 25 m. Lens: CU or W Currents can be very strong. The outreef has 2 large overhangs with lots of fish. The channel is sandy with smaller overhangs and good possibility of larger pelagic fish as grey reef sharks as well as big schools of jack fish and snappers.
32. Kuredu Corner
Channelreef. 10 min.
Depth: 5 - 30 m. Lens: CU or W
Sandy channel with the corner offering possibilities of larger pelagic fish. Soft corals are found along the reef.
33. Mashura Outreef
Outerreef oceanside. 20 min.
Depth: 8 - 25 m. Lens: CU or W
A shallow topreef with large coral blocks offering a home to different kinds of smaller fish species. Possibility of larger fish swimming past on the outreef.
34. Medadihura Outreef
Outerreef oceanside. 30 min.
Depth: 8 - 25 m. Lens: CU or W
A shallow topreef with large coral blocks. Hawksbill turtles on the reef and the possibility of larger fish swimming past on the outreef.
35. Kanihura Corner
Channelreef oceanside. 30 min.
Depth: 5 - 25 m. Lens: W or CU
The topreef has huge coral blocks . The fish that can be seen here are Vlaming's Unicorn fish, schools of fusiliers, napoleon and tuna. Big table corals and coral blocks are found on the shallow topreef. A possibility of seeing large pelagic fish on the outreef which drops off to 25m.
36. Maagiri North
Atoll reef. 25min.
Depth: 5 - 20 m. Lens: CU or W
This giri is excellent for photographers, with large schools of yellow banded snappers. Usually jack fish hunting. Reef gently drops off into the channel.
37. Maagiri South
Atoll reef. 25 min.
Depth: 5 - 20 m. Lens: W or CU
Yellow banded snappers are found close to the reef. A variety of anemones and other soft corals are found along the reef. Small caves and terraces are inhabited by various fish species. Excellent for photographers.
38. Zafari Reef
Channelreef oceanside. 30 min.
Depth: 5 - 25 m. Lens: M or W
Varying reef profile. Drop off, channel and overhangs. Shallow topreef boasts various hard and soft corals. Ideal to view different fish species and a possibility to see larger pelagic fish.
39. Kuda Kandu
Channelcrossing. 40 min.
Depth: 5 - 30 m. Lens: W
The small channel has 2 Thila's inside the channel. An abundance of small fish life and varying soft corals. A possibility of seeing turtles, moray eels and larger pelagic fish.
40. Fushivaru Corner - Marine Park
Channelreef oceanside. 45 min.
Depth: 5 - 30 m. Lens: W
On the corner large schools of snappers can be seen swimming in midwater. Various moray eels inhabit the reef and a possibility of seeing larger pelagic fish.
41. Fushivaru Thila - Marine Park
Thila. 45 min.
Depth: 11 - 20 m. Lens: W
Topreef is between 14 and 16m with large coral blocks. A large variety of table and soft corals. Many different types of fish can be seen. The thila drops off to sand on either side with a possibility of seeing stingrays sleeping in the sand. Seasonal cleaning station for Manta rays.
42. Fushivaru Kandu - Marine Park
Channelcrossing. 45 min.
Depth: 5 - 30 m. Lens: W
Large deep channel with sandy bottom. Possibility to see larger pelagic fish and schools of jacks swimming on the channel edge.
43. Fushivaru Giri - Marine Park
Atollreef. 45 min.
Depth: 3 - 25 m. Lens: W
Interesting coral formations with a possibility to see large schools of fusiliers and a variety of fish life.
44. Fushivaru Outreef - Marine Park
Outer reef oceanside. 50 min.
Depth: 3 - 20 m. Lens: W
The outreef has one of the most beautiful topreefs, with large table corals. The outreef drops off to a terrace on 25m with the possibility of seeing sleeping stingrays on the bottom. Variety of fish life and marine inhabitants.
45. Fathima Kandu
Channelcrossing. 80 min.
Depth: 5 - 30 m. Lens: W
On the outreef there are large coral blocks and table corals. Thila is in the middle of the channel with a large diversity of marine life. Possibility to see larger pelagic fish.
